Summary
The objective of this investigation is to study the transfer of knowledge within the regional innovation system of the Danube region. The role of innovation and knowledge transfer in the context of regional development is identified, the concept of regional innovation systems is defined and the main determinants of the diffusion of innovation are presented. The potential of science and knowledge transfer centres as well as the barriers to developing innovations in the region are revealed.
