The Bulgarian economy has the lowest labor productivity in the EU. In order to find the reason for the occurrence of this problem, are investigated the factors, influencing the labor productivity on a disaggregate level. In this paper are analyzed fourteen industries for a seven years period (2001 to 2007) using annual data. This research applies the Zellner’s method for estimation of systems with simultaneous equations to estimate the influence of six selected factors on labor productivity. The findings of the research include negative influence of the expenditures for tangible assets in agriculture, positive impact of wages in most industries except mining, weak or no influence of the FDI levels and strong influence of inflation in all industries.

The evaluation of entrepreneur’s activities is directly related to the value of the company as a composite index comprising the interests of all stakeholders interested in its development. Value determination is a complex and continuous process, which is influenced by many factors in the course of time. Regardless of the difficulties related to value determination, the management of the process of creation and preservation of value is a specific target, which more and more companies include in their strategies and practice. It is related to the value-based management concept. The paper substantiates the need for a research on the factors for efficient asset management, which increase the value of the companies. The empirical research was conducted with data for the public companies in Bulgaria included in the Dnevnik 20 index.

European Union policy in the area of agriculture is settled as a standard in article 32-38 of the Convention of the European Community and it is one of the most complicated and most variegated measures to influence among the policies of the European Community. This policy is integrated in various ways in number of other independent policies of the Community such as for e.g. Environmental protection and Healthcare, and because of that reason functioning and development of the Common Market of agriculture products should be accompanied by developing of Common Agriculture Policy. The project on the theme „Developing of marketing strategies for agricultural subsector” is oriented to examination of theoretical approaches and practical opportunities, which should be given by an effective marketing strategy to the organizations of agrarian sector in order to increase their revenue through: offering of agricultural products, which comply with the consumer needs of customers; optimizing of the process of contracting with the clients of agricultural products and raw materials; improving of the servicing and work with customers; retaining existing and attracting new customers; more effective realization of the agricultural products.

The present study is directed at establishing the employment of out-sourcing at Bulgarian companies as a business model and the risks and implications of its utilization. The results of the study indicate that the greater part of the economic agents apply outsourcing in various degrees and in various forms. The basic positive effects have been determined as a result of awarding external contractors with functions, activities and processes which beforehand were carried out by means of own resources within the company – higher quality of products/services, access to the specific knowledge and experience of the outsourcing partner, optimizing the number of personnel, lowering costs, etc… At the same time, the possible exposures when applying this business strategy were identified – leaking of internal information and know-how of the company, falling into dependence upon the outsourcing partner, failure to deliver on the outsourcing contract, etc… We have articulated a number of conclusions and substantiated ideas on the successful employment of outsourcing at Bulgarian companies.

New Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adoption for effective tourist information systems is an extremely imperative and indispensable process. It will allow increasing the range of clients’ services, to improve business organization, to decrease the costs, to raise the effectiveness of partners’ interaction and to receive a wide access to a variety of information resources. For the purpose of this scientific-practical research a special system of criteria for assessment of tourist firms’ information systems has been developed. The project team has investigated the information systems of 100 tourist firms and hotels. As a result of this research some solutions for raising the effectiveness and information service quality have been suggested. Some issues about online services, reservation and geographical systems were discussed and how they contribute for tourist product and services personalization.

Raising corporate competitiveness is a fundamental problem of modern economy directly related to the optimization of company performance and its survival in a market environment. This is a permanent process which has to deal with a number of problems, and some of them have been explored in this work. This research focuses on the essence of competitiveness as a corporate strategy element, and it identifies the differences between corporate competitiveness and corporate production competitiveness. Some major factors that determine corporate competitiveness have been considered, such as resources, finance, technical equipment available, pricing, etc. This work also focuses on practical solutions to problems related to corporate competitiveness. These solutions were prompted after conducting a survey among manufacturers of dairy products. The findings of the practical survey were also used to analyze the real condition of corporate competitiveness of companies in the branch, as well as to make some recommendations towards raising that competitiveness.

Enterprises of different industrial production sectors have realized a long time ago necessity of asset management. Even more these management activities have become irreversible firm strategy’s attribute for increasing potential and finance security of the economic units. Their practice in a few big industrial enterprises result in decreasing operative expenditure in 20-40 % and increasing the capacity of production with 5-10 % without necessity of additional capital investment. The choice of one or another asset management system is determined by the character and dynamic of the industrial sector, market environment and the existing law restricts. The sub-sector C “Production of medicinal substances and products” and section 21.1 “Production of pharmaceutical drugs” have established place in the overall structure of our industrial production. Over the last decade companies from the sub-sector suffered a number of transformations associated with a change of form of ownership and renovation of production facilities. With the advent of powerful international companies like “GlaxoSmithKline” and “Actavis” opportunities were created for the actual construction of systems for asset management.

The planning processes management systems have a significant potential in terms of their capability of solving complex corporate problems and their utilization improves the efficiency and competitiveness of the business organizations - a fact that calls for the implementation of a certification of this managerial function. The creation of a system of procedures and regulations governing the corporate planning activities aims to ensure the quality of corporate planning and business growth in the conditions of constantly improving European planning practice. The research is focused on the corporate planning practice analyzed in terms of constant improvement of business processes and corporate planning concepts.

Environmental pollution leads to degradation and loss of habitats and can be considered as part of a global threat. Biological Diversity in Bulgaria is affected in varying degrees by different forms of pollution - contamination of soil by agricultural and industrial activities, water pollution (chemical pollution, industrial pollution, etc.), pollution by solid waste. The extraction of raw materials for industry leads to the excavation of a huge amount of rocks, quarries are being developed to limestone and marble mining, factories were built on fertile lands and others. Consequently, the landscape is changing, growing deserts, vegetation is destroyed and animals. Applying the principles of sustainable development in different locations, regions and countries in the world as a whole, will help solve many global problems.

The study covers the existing accounting practices in terms of reporting and communicating of information in the annual financial statements (AFS) of Bulgarian banks and state-owned businesses. The main thesis of the study is that there are possibilities for improvement of the structure and contents of the annual financial statements of such banks and state-owned businesses in order to ensure the transparency of the financial information and hence to guarantee the accuracy of the resulting evaluations and forecasts as well as adequate managerial decisions. The approbation of these possibilities in the practice of banks and state-owned businesses would result in an information resource which would be useful for the market participants and the society as a whole and would ensure a better efficiency of the market.
